Winter Adventures in New Smyrna Beach

Visiting New Smyrna Beach during the winter is fantastic! It’s the time of year when the weather is pretty much perfect. You can’t ask for better weather, as it’s typically filled with sunshine and pleasant temperatures. No matter what time of the year you visit the area, there are always great things to do. Here are some fun things to do when visiting during the winter months.

Experience Exciting Winter Adventures in New Smyrna Beach

See the Manatees – During the colder months, the spring area is closed to swimming at Blue Spring State Park. This allows hundreds of manatees to flock into the room to keep warm. Visit on a cold winter morning, and you will see hundreds of these beautiful, gentle giants.

Take a Hike – Unlike other states, the hiking season in Florida is during the winter months. There are many great hiking trails around the New Smyrna Beach area. Choose one and hit the trails to see some local flora, fauna, and wildlife. There are some beautiful natural areas close by that will renew your spirit.

Go Kayaking – You will get a unique experience when renting a kayak and heading down the river. There’s a good chance you will see dolphins in their natural habitat and plenty of birds. There are numerous places you can rent a kayak to go out alone or sign up to go as a group. Check with the Marine Discovery Center and Marine Science Center. There’s also kayaking available at Blue Spring State Park and DeLeon Springs State Park.

Christmas Activities – Visiting the area during December is magical because many holiday activities take place. There’s a little special something in the air every December in New Smyrna Beach. This time of the year, you can plan to see a Boat Parade on the river, watch Light Up Flagler Avenue, see parades, and more.

Take a River Tour – The winter months are a great time to take a boat tour on the Indian River Lagoon. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride as they stroll along. You will learn about the area’s wildlife, plants, and some historical aspects. Taking a river tour is always a relaxing way to get a glimpse of the area.

Have a Picnic – This is the best time of the year to plan a picnic because the weather is perfect for it. You can have a great picnic at the beach, Lake Ashby, Smyrna Dunes Park, Blue Spring State Park, and a number of other places. If you don’t have the things to pack or don’t feel like doing the work to pack up a lunch, don’t worry. There are plenty of take-out options you could turn to, picking up the food along the way.
